Update #7 - Monarchs in Mexico

This is a very special update because it was pretty much the most amazing thing I've witnessed since being here in Mexico!

Soooo, yesterday, my amiga, Gauri, and I went on a three hour trip with a very special mission. This is the time of year when the monarch butterflies migrate from the northern parts of Canada and the United States to their summer vacation home in central MEXICO!

Anyways, when we were kids, my sister, Alison, and I used to raise monarch butterflies because they lay their eggs in our region of the United States. Needless to say, I was very excited about seeing one, much less millions of these monarch butterflies... So we went to this special, hidden "Switzerland of Mexico," to where the butterflies migrate, and we were surrounded by literally millions of orange and black (PRINCETON) butterflies!

When we first arrived, they were passing over the road, and we had to drive slower than 15km/h so as not to hurt them. Then, we did a (rather strenuous) hike to the top of a hill, which has been deemed the "butterfly sanctuary." They were covering the trees and flying in every available zone. The air was sooo clean there, it was hard for me to breathe, and the only sound that you could hear was the rush of their tiny wings batting in the air. AMAZING. I was in heaven!

I hope you enjoy the pictures I've added (a new feat for this girl!), although they will never even come close to capturing the beauty and sheer awesomeness!

If you want to see this, you can still come and visit me! They will be here til February!
